Job Description
Job Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Detox & Behavioral Health
Position Overview:
We are seeking experienced Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with a background in detoxification, withdrawal management, and behavioral health care to support patients in residential or inpatient substance use disorder treatment settings.
This role is ideal for LPNs who are comfortable monitoring patients through withdrawal, administering medications, supporting crisis situations, and working closely with RNs, providers, and the interdisciplinary clinical team.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct nursing care to patients undergoing detox and withdrawal management
Assist with and document withdrawal monitoring using CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment) and COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) tools per facility protocol
Perform routine patient assessments, including vital signs and symptom monitoring
Safely administer and document medications, including withdrawal management and psychiatric medications, under RN/physician direction
Observe and report changes in physical, emotional, and behavioral status to the RN or provider
Support patients during medical or behavioral health crises
Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation
Promote a structured, therapeutic, and supportive treatment environment
Collaborate with RNs, physicians, therapists, and case managers as part of an interdisciplinary care team
Provide patient education on medications, withdrawal expectations, and recovery support
Required Qualifications:
Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing
Experience in detox, withdrawal management, substance use disorder treatment, or behavioral health settings
Familiarity with CIWA and COWS protocols
Experience in residential, inpatient, or psychiatric care environments
Strong observation and reporting skills
Experience with medication administration in behavioral health or detox settings
Ability to stay calm and effective in high-acuity or crisis situations
Strong teamwork and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles
BLS/CPR certification
